Good attempts

I think this album didn't truly show what Madonna was capable of. The demos are rough, but some do show great pop potential. "Laugh To Keep From Crying" show a Madonna that could have been a rock queen. The early versions of songs that would become hits don't the do the finished version justice. Either "Everybody" is OK, but not as exciting as the one that took over the clubs. The first "Stay", as a dreamy trippy ballad ala Blondie works so well and even challenges the Nile Rodgers production. Simple is good sometimes. The most interesting songs are "Crimes Of Passion" with a great pop feel and "Don't You Know" which synthesizers are all over and lovely.

If with the rough sounds of the demos and very weak vocals (you never thought a signer like this could even sing the songs of Evita in her shower), the set shows a good mix and potential.
