Ray Of Light (1998)
Review Score:

(10/10)
Three long years have passed since Madonna released the album, "Something To Remember". Now, it is 1998 and Madonna has released her eleventh album entitled, "Ray Of Light". Some of us have thought that Madonna might have not changed for this one, but for those of us who thought that were wrong. For this album, Madonna took up a mature late 90s spiritual look, with a sound that is spiritual techno. This album is nothing short of a classic.
DROWNED WORLD (SUBSTITUTE FOR LOVE)
The third single from the album, although, it was not released as a U.S. single. This is a great song that explains how Madonna had felt after the birth of her daughter, Lourdes. Madonna had been a long relationship with her daughter's father, Carlos Leon, which, of course, ended in 1997. This song sort explains that Madonna can never find a true love. This song may have been released as another non-U.S. single, but Madonna did include this one on her second greatest hits compilation.
SWIM
Very spiritual as Drowned World (Substitute For Love), but with a little more of a dance groove. Still, an amazing song.
RAY OF LIGHT
The second single from the album. Madonna's twelfth #1 hit single. This album general picked up a few Grammys, but that wasn't all. This song, the album's title track, was even responsible for earning Madonna a couple of Grammys, including Best Video. This song definitely rocks.
CANDY PERFUME GIRL
This album features a sound, as I said, of mature late 90s spiritual adult Pop. Madonna took that sound and fused into a rock sound and the result she received from the combination was this incredible song. It's sort of a fantasy love type song, but it's a song that I can most certainly rock to.
SKIN
This one is very strange, but it's still amazing and it's enough to get you up and dancing all night long.
NOTHING REALLY MATTERS
The fifth & final single from the album. Out of all the singles Madonna released from this album, this was classified, by others, to be the worst song from this album. Man, were those people wrong again. I thought that this song was amazing. The video features Madonna taking up, for the first time, the Japanese Geisha look. She absolutely glows in this music video.
SKY FITS HEAVEN
Another amazing tune and it fits the album so perfectly.
SHANTI (ASHTANGI)
Before this album was finished, Madonna had started practicing yoga, which is an exercise and meditation to relieve stress. For this song, Madonna sang in some sort of Yoga language. Although, I wish it would have been sung in English, this song isn't that bad.
FROZEN
The first single from the album. When I first saw this video, which was also the same time when I first heard the song, I said to myself, "Who in the hell is this?" When VH1 showed who the performer was, the name of the song, and the album name, my mouth was dropped down to my toes. I couldn't believe at how amazing, but strange, this video looked, and how how amazing this song sounded. Awesome tune.
THE POWER OF GOOD-BYE
The fourth single from the album. This is another great song. It features sort of the same sound concept that was featured on "Drowned World (Substitute For Love)". Meaning, this one has a very mellow moving sound as the "Drowned World (Substitute For Love)".
TO HAVE AND NOT TO HOLD
Although, I love this song, I still don't know what it means. But, all in all, this one is still a great song for everyone to enjoy.
LITTLE STAR
Madonna was so happy to have given birth to her daughter that she came to the point of writing this song for her. The music is incredible, her voice sounds amazing, and the lyrics are very touching. How do I know this one is about her daughter? The lyrics say, "Never forget who you are, little star. Never forget how to dream, butterfly. God gave a present to me made of flesh and bones. My life, my soul, you make my spirit whole".
MER GIRL
Although, I do enjoy listening to this song very much, the song does, however, give me the creeps because of its eerie sound and its eerie lyrics. But still, I do enjoy this song very much.
When I listened to this entire album, I was completely blown away at how amazing it was. This album has proven to us that Madonna was nowhere near finished with her career and, with this album, Madonna proved to us that she knows more about keeping up with the times than we thought she did. This album stands as my seventh favorite album from Madonna. Buy it and it will become your favorite Madonna album.
