Something To Remember

A Few Things to Remember

I did not know this was a ballad collection. I simply figured it was a different way of presenting Madonna's 2nd greatest hits album. And I didn't figure the speed of the songs was any indicator on why they were chosen for this compilation. But considering that, there's still the issue of the fact that this collection feels like it's missing something. Like the correct single version of the remix of "Love Don't Live Here Anymore", which is as I understand it subtitled the "Soulpower Remix". It's better than the remix we actually get on this CD. Even the original is better than the remix we get here.

What I originally thought was that this was just a collection of Madonna's classier songs, which ballads typically are. For that purpose, I think a lot of people would have appreciated it if "Secret" was included over a second version of "I Want You" tacked on at the end. And just because this is a love song collection, doesn't mean the songs have to be slow. Where's "Angel" or "True Blue"? These songs should have been included over the decision to re-include "Crazy for You" and "Live to Tell"- which had already been put on The Immaculate Collection.

Though I do have to hand it to the assembler here, that the versions of both those songs are each of their original length, not shortened to fit a 73-minute disc. But then, there's the fact that the version of "This Used to Be My Playground" included here is shortened and missing a section of vocals- a verse and not just a repeat of chorus or bridge. Now, since I'm a Madonna completist- I have to track down the CD single of it and the soundtrack of A League of Their Own, and the compilation Barcelona Gold, just so I can find the entire version of that song somewhere.

This CD contains 3 brand new tracks- "You'll See", "One More Chance", and "I Want You". All of these songs are incredible. These make up for the shortcomings this album has as a collection. And without them, this would be a pass of a CD. This way, you also don't have to buy the soundtrack to Vision Quest. Unless you, like I, need "Gambler" to complete your collection.
