Madonna

Something To Remember

Something To Remember (1995)

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
Madonna had received a lot of attention back 1992 and 1993, and all of that attention was not good attention. In 1994, she received more attention, but this time, it was great attention, all because of her new album and, of course, "Take A Bow".

On November 7, 1995, Madonna released her tenth album, "Something To Remember". This album is actually her first greatest ballads compilation, where it includes fourteen songs, featuring ten older songs and four new ones, that are considered to be her greatest ballads. Some of the older songs that made it onto this album were never released as singles, even when they were resurrected for this one. All of them were never released as singles, all except for one, which I will get to shortly.

I WANT YOU (with Massive Attack)
New song. Although, Madonna did shoot a music video for this song, she did not release it as a single. This is something I am still puzzling over. I think she only shot a music video for this one, just so people would buy the album. This song is sort of strange, but it's a great song.

I'LL REMEMBER
From the original motion picture & soundtrack "With Honors". This was the theme song to the 1994 drama film, "With Honors". Madonna also released as a single. This is a beautiful song and I took the liberty of dedicating it to my late grandfather.

TAKE A BOW
From the album Bedtime Stories (1994). This was the second single to be released from the "Bedtime Stories" album. Madonna knew she had to include this song on this album, for it caused her to be praised by her hateful critics.

YOU'LL SEE
New song. The first single from the album. The first song I heard from Madonna was "Open Your Heart". That was in 1996, when I was 11 years old. It was the song that made me the loyal fan I am today. A few months after hearing "Open Your Heart", I heard this one while watching the video to it on VH1. I immediately fell in love with this song only after hearing the first verse. It is definitely a beautiful song.

CRAZY FOR YOU
From the original motion picture & soundtrack "Vision Quest". This is the first single to be released from the 1985 film and soundtrack, "Vision Quest". This one was Madonna's second #1 hit single and it deserves to be on this album. The second single Madonna had released from the film and soundtrack was "Gambler", but that never saw the light in the U.S.

THIS USED TO BE MY PLAYGROUND
From the original motion picture "A League Of Their Own". Madonna had starred in the mid-1992 film, "A League Of Their Own" as Mae Mordabito. She even recorded this song as the film's theme song. Although, this one was not included on the film's soundtrack, the song is absolutely beautiful. Madonna released it as a single in 1992 and it became her tenth #1 hit. This album marks this song's first official album debut.

LIVE TO TELL
From the album True Blue (1986). Madonna saw three #1 hits from her "True Blue" album. This was the first #1 hit from that album and it stands as Madonna's third #1 hit single all together. Definitely a favorite of mine.

LOVE DON'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE (Remix)
Remix New song. The second single from the album. Original version from the album Like A Virgin (1984). When the original version of this song was recorded, it was included on Madonna's "Like A Virgin" album. But when she released that album, she did not put this song out as a single. She remixed the song and put it on this album, and then released it as a single. So, just to clear things up, this song was not released as a single when included on the "Like A Virgin" album. It was released in 1996 from this album, as the remix.

SOMETHING TO REMEMBER
From the album I'm Breathless (1990). This is a song that was first included on her "I'm Breathless" album. She then resurrected it and included it on this album as the album's title track. She did not release it as a single back in 1990. And she did not release it as single when she released this album.

FORBIDDEN LOVE
From the album Bedtime Stories (1994). As I said when I reviewed this song during my "Bedtime Stories" album review, this song was never released as a single on both albums. It's just a song that Madonna keeps close to her heart.

ONE MORE CHANCE
New song. The third & final single from this album, although, not released as a U.S. single. I do not care for this song.

RAIN
From the album Erotica (1992). This is definitely one of her greatest ballads and Madonna knew that enough to include it here. Beautiful song.

OH FATHER
From the album Like A Prayer (1989). This song has been a classic since Madonna released it as the fourth single from the "Like A Prayer" album. It still remains a classic, even after she brought it back for this album.

I WANT YOU (with Massive Attack) (Orchestral Version)
See review for I WANT YOU.

This is another amazing album. The album doesn't feature too much of a new sound, for it contains a lot of Madonna's older material. As for the new songs are concerned, the sound was reinvented into a more mature adult Pop sound. Madonna's look was reinvented into a more mature conservative sexy look. All in all, this album is more than worth the money.

Great Audio

This is my favorite Madonna album, from both a music and sound standpoint. The recording quality is pristine -- some of the best in my 1000 [ ... read complete review ]
