Disappointed with GHV2? Look here!

Like millions of others, I've been a more than proud owner of Madonna's Immaculate Collection for years, and after hearing many of the post-IC hits, I was looking forward to her next compilation. I was deeply disappointed to see three of my absolute favorite songs missing from the recent GHV2. Something To Remember was a Godsend. I could now add the all-around greatness of "I'll Remember", the reminiscing pleasure of "This Used To Be My Playground", and the underrated, sexy "Rain" to my collection, and with the purchase of just one album!
But Something To Remember lives up to its title beyond just those three hard to find grooves. This is a collection of many of Madonna's best ballads, past & present. The past remains vivid and holds up particularly well with such classics as "Crazy For You" and "Live To Tell". On the strength of these old classics and more recent blockbusters like the excellent "Take A Bow", the first half of Something To Remember couldn't be much better.
Unfortunately, I find the second half of the CD to be a little weaker/less memorable. This isn't to say that I don't like the latter half, though - I like all the songs, even the acoustic country-sounding "One More Chance". But after listening to several #1 singles in the first half, both fairly new and fairly old, the difference in tone is more noticeable than it would otherwise be. I don't mind at all that a couple of #1 hits that are also on The Immaculate Collection are also here on Something To Remember. Personally, I think "Open Your Heart" and "Borderline" (my fav. Madonna song ever!) should be on here since this is a collection of her ballads. And why not put the seemingly forgotten ballad, "True Blue", on here as well? It was a Top 5 hit that was left off of The Immaculate Collection, even.
Something To Remember definitely isn't a liar. It really is something to remember. Whether you get it because most of your fav. Madonna songs are on here or do like me and get it because of the ones that were left off of GHV2, you should add it to your library for sure. Did you know that this is the only Madonna album that "This Used To Be My Playground" and "I'll Remember" are on and that your Madonna collection isn't complete without them? This is something to remember.
