This CD Is Truly Is Something To Remember; 4.9 Stars

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
By 1996, much had been made about Madonna the celebrity, but little is said about Madonna the artist. While some of her songs remain some of the greatest pop records ever, many people tended to focus on her "SEX" book and her risque stage antics than her music. Many people never realized her sensitive, loving side. In 1996, she decided it was time to do it. So what better to release a collection of ballads? "Something To Remember" was the result, and it was truly memorable.

This cd has some of Madonna's finest ballads and biggest hits from the 1980s' and 1990s'; "Take A Bow" (her biggest hit ever with 7 weeks at number one), the chilling "Live To Tell", the captivating "Take A Bow" sequel "You'll See" and of course, the classic, timeless "Crazy For You". This song was all the rage at high school dances in 1985. Also, Madonna recorded new songs like the pretty "Forbidden Love" and the eerie cover of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You". The album's title track (originally from the "Dick Tracy" soundtrack) is among Madonna's best works.

The reason I gave this cd 4.9 stars rather than the full 5 stars is because there are several songs I would have loved to have seen on this collection. For instance, I would have loed if "Cherish" was included. This is possibly Madonna's purest love song, a celebraion of love power. And while it's a great dance song, "Like A Prayer" is in the same vein. There are plenty of other songs here I could list but it would take up to much space.

Overall, a worthwhile collection of Madonna love songs. Let's hope she releases a volume 2 of her ballads. These songs are among her best, and let's hope she makes more like them.
