She had most recently come off her eleventh #1 hit, "Take A Bow", when she switched gears yet again.
This transformation was best explained by Madonna's then-recent hiring by Director Alan Parker to star in the film version of the musical EVITA, of which the music video for "Take A Bow" was influenced.
The album itself covered all the bases, from 1985's sweet "Crazy For You" and 1994's "I'll Remember", to 3 then-newly-recorded songs: the Celine Dion-esque "You'll See", the acoustic guitar-driven "One More Chance" and a cover of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You".
These love songs showed and proved that Madonna - primarily known as a high-energy dance artist - was truly a big softie at heart.
With SOMETHING TO REMEMBER, Madonna comfortably segued into her operatic EVITA phase, much to the delight of critics and fans alike.
Madonna promoted this record with a music video for "You'll See", a visual sequel to "Take A Bow".
