Madonna

Something To Remember

A Madonna album for even those who don't particularly care

Well, judging from the past fifty or so reviews (!), I don't think I could say too much that is new, so I'll just give a simple opinion.

First of all, yes, some ballads are missing. Personally, I think that the majority consensus that Crazy for You is unwelcome is right on the mark. That could have been jettisoned to make room for something else that the general public is unfamiliar with. Promise to Try and Love Tried to Welcome Me come to mind. They could have even been daring, and included Bad Girl! (discuss...)

However, you have to give the record execs credit for not leaving behind Oh Father. The inclusion of that one song frees the complilation from being dismissed as just Adult Contemporary fluff. And, it's my favorite Madonna song, by the way. Another good choice was Something to Remember. It had the misfortune of being on the kitschy Dick Tracy album. Here, it really shines, even if Madonna can't quite vocally reach those high notes.

Some of you think that Live to Tell should have been left off, but it's too good to have been dismissed.

That's enough, for now. :)
