This compilation album brings together some of her most timeless ballards that never once seem too soppy. Madonna had been in and out of the charts since 1984 and previous to this only one compilation had been released,THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION (1990), so this was a much welcome offering. This compilation begins with a cover version of Marvin Gayes' I WANT YOU, which is haunting and atmospheric and is also a collaboration with Massive Attack. A strong track featuring a stunning performance! I'LL REMEMBER is another highlight of the album which again features a strong performance and stunning orchestra. However best of all is the previously unreleased track, YOUR'LL SEE. A strong track which is charged with high emotion and energy, this is now a rightful classic and sailed to NO.1 on the U.K charts. There is also another previously unreleased track, ONE MORE CHANCE which allows you to appreciate the full extent of Madonnas strong, vocal abilities.Amongst the other highlights (although this album is consistently very good to excellent throughout) include a cover version of LOVE DON'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE (by far the very best version i've heard of this much covered track), two hits from the eighties, CRAZY FOR YOU and LIVE TO TELL (possibly her very, very best ballard of her 1980's recordings) as well as the grooving, R and B number, FORBIDDEN LOVE and the truly touching, OH FATHER. If you don't wish to collect her entire back catologue of albums then this and The Immacualate Collection are the ones to pick as are both thoroughly excellent and highly recommended.
