Mandy Moore

I Wanna Be With You

And you thought Prince's Sign "O" the Times was good!!

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
In a day and age when music is becoming dull and tiresome, Mandy comes out with a disc that will do circles around your old worn out copies of Venus and Mars by Paul McCartney and Wings, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me by the Cure, Straight Up by Badfinger, Darkness on the Edge of Town by Springsteen, and many others far too numerous to mention here!!

I thought that all hope was gone for the millenium!! Music was no longer based on talent, but just having the right look, or the right hair, or something. But then Mandy Moore came along and changed music and the way we look at it!! No more little girls who just look cute getting record deals, this is the real thing!! Sure, Mandy is "cute," but she has real genius to back it up!!

I'll give you a song by song perspective!!

1.) I Wanna Be With You: No, this isn't a Bruce Springsteen cover. Too bad, because I think I like his song just a wee better than Mandy's song. But Mandy's is still sweet!! A nice pop song, if anybody still remembers what one of those is!! I would have to put this up there with "The Beautiful Ones" by Prince. Or "Jealous Guy" by John Lennon. Or even "Beauty and Sadness" by the Smithereens!!

2.) Everything My Heart Desires: No, this isn't a cover of Daryl Hall and John Oates!! Shoot!! Why couldn't she do a cool Hall and Oates cover, like "Waterwheel" or "Winged Bull" or "Open All Night" or "Out of Touch" or "Head Above Water" or "Romeo is Bleeding" or "You Make My Dreams" or, even a Hall solo cover, like "NYCNY" or "Can't Stop Dreaming" or "Wildfire" or "Only a Vision?" "Kiss on My List?"

3.) Want You Back: No, this isn't the Jackson 5 cover, unfortunately!! What a shame, I love the drums on that song, and the guitar, too!! Man, it would be cool if Mandy would do an MJ cover, like "It's the Falling in Love" or "Human Nature" or even an early Jackson 5 tune, like "If I Have to Move a Mountain" or "Breezy." Or, maybe she could do a Jacksons cover like "Can You Feel It" or "Wondering Who." But, otherwise, I like this song, too!! It makes me happy and smile from ear to ear.

4.) The Way to My Heart: I'd give it 5 out of 5 stars, but then, I already gave 5 stars to "Sexy Sadie" by the Beatles, and five stars to "Too Far Gone" by Mick Jagger. And then, what about those 5 stars I gave to Pete Townshend for "The Sea Refuses No River?" So, just 4 stars...sorry, Mandy!! They can't all get five stars!!

5.) So Real (Wade Robson Remix): She should get William Orbit to do some remixes!! Who is Robson? Daniel son? I like William Orbit because he seems really talented. But so does Mandy Moore, so who knows? Mandy's boyfriend should buy her a sitar. I bet she could master it faster than Brian Jones did the evening they laid down "Paint it Black!!" Did Brian Jones play the sitar on "Street Fighting Man?" Who played harmonica on "Apple Scruffs" by George Harrison, it doesn't say in the box? Or is that actually an accordion?

6.) Lock Me in Your Heart: A real pretty song!! A real gem!! Like the first time I heard "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney, or "Love Will Stone You" by Emitt Rhodes. Except Emitt Rhodes probably wasn't very talented like Mandy Moore, because I think he only made three or four albums and then just vanished. He's never even been in a movie like Mandy-sweet has!!

7.) Walk Me Home: Uh-uh, this won't do. I'd MUCH prefer an evening listening to "I Just Wasn't Made for these Times" by the Beach Boys three hundred times than to even hear this song once!! Even the long medley on side two of Abbey Road by the Beatles beats this song.

8.) I Like It: Remember when Prince did a song called "I Like it There" on Chaos and Disorder? Mandy Moore does a better song here with I Like It. Boy, I just love music. I really like that song "I" by the Electric Prunes. Too bad they didn't make videos in the 1960's. At least now a REAL artist like Mandy Moore can come along and sell real talent!!

9.) So Real: If only this song had a Rickenbacker 12-string in it I would like it "moore." I miss songs like "Eight Miles High" and "Good Vibrations" and "Strawberry Fields Forever." I thought the days of good music like that was over until I "chanced" across Mandy!! Hip-hip-hooray!!

10.) Candy (Wade Robson Remix): I should have known that this WASN'T the Byrds song from that movie way back when, I just should have known!! Wow, if they ever remade that movie, guess who could play the lead role?? Mandyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!

11.) Your Face: Another fine fine Mandy Moore song!! Wow, they just keep getting better (not to quote the Beatles!!) Pop music never tasted so good!! This is a great song, just like "As I Recall" by Donovan. Or "Celeste" by Donovan, or "House of Jansch" by Donovan, or "New Year's Resovolution" (sic!) by Donovan!!

12.) I Wanna Be With You (Soul Solution Remix): Great remix!! Oh, Mandy you are the king, errr, queen!! But I still think the best remix ever was Prince on "La La La, He He Hee," especially when the vocals sing "play that bass...play that bass..." and Prince says, "you want me to...you just gonna play the line over and...ARGH!!" and he picks up his bass guitar and he just throws out the meanest jam I've ever heard on a bass guitar...
