The last of the blond teen "divas" to surface in last years overkill of said assault, Mandy Moore was thrust onto the scene thanks to a catchy little ditty entitled 'Candy', and oh how appropriate that title was. Filled with similar sounding tracks, her debut SO REAL sounded like what it was--a big rush job to capitalize on the success of the single. Apparently, her label took a step back and decided that the material was a little weak, which for the most part was the case, with the exception of a few tracks. What followed six months later was this "repackaged" edition, complete with new songs and a new title. With that said, I WANNA BE WITH YOU is a slight improvement over the first cd, with the chief draw being the very pretty title track(also remixed here). A few other new songs are added, along with mediocre remixes of 'Candy' and 'So Real'. Though falling way short of Christina Aguilera's and Jessica Simpson's vocal acrobatics, she nonetheless has a pretty, if somewhat limited, voice that she uses to good effect, especially on the ballads(the title track in particular). What she lacks in vocal ability( and hey, she's still a better singer than Britney), she makes up for in pure sincerity, which all of these other "baby divas" seem to lack. With the right material, she could easily compete on more level ground with Britney, et al.
