From that cinematic disaster called 'Center Stage', comes this horrendous ballad by Mandy Moore, whose luck has seen better days with songs like 'Candy'. It amazes me how teen pop has decayed to its present insipid level. Everything sounds the same. What is even more inexplicable is that Nicholas Hytner, the director of 'Center Stage' chose this dismal track to both open and close the soundtrack album of the film (the last track is a dismal 'remix' of the original, and it sounds worse than ever, if such a thing is possible). Sung with a girlish confidence by Moore, the song is lyrically weak, and musically void of any depth. It falters even as a pop song of its own genre and thats a crying shame. At the time of writing, the single is languishing at the bottom half of the Billboard Singles Chart, and thats not really surprising. Whats really shocking is that even Mandy chose this single as the lead for her new EP (which is called - hold your breath - 'I wanna be with you'.). Yuck. After this, its obvious that either Moore tidy up her sorry act, or get a decent college education and bow out of the recording business.
