To be honest, when I first saw the video for Candy, I thought it was a VW commercial! But then the more I saw of her, the more I realized that the one thing that set's her apart from Christina, Jessica, and Britney is that she is a teenager, but she doesn't hide it.
Know, that that's out of the way, let's get to the music! I was drawn to I Wanna Be... in much the same way I was drawn to Show Me the Meaning..., the acoustic guitars and the strings, both beautifully woven together along with Mandy's breathie, extremely clean voice.
But again, the popstar shows their true color's in the ballads. Some, like Jessica and Christina, use ballads as a way of over emphasising their vocal range and drown you out with meaningless ad libs at the end of the songs. Mandy, on the other hand, keeps the vocal style constant throughout the album. Overall, her performance is incredible!
Her voice might remain consistent, but I am still hearing the repetativeness in the songs that has lumped her in with all of the other bubblegum popstars!
Give Mandy a few more years and she might be the next Celine Dion!
