Sophisticated and Different!

In the past, you may have associated Mandy Moore, who was barely fifteen when she released her first single "Candy", with the most bubble-gum-flavored type of pop music that you could ever find. But "Candy" was released during the period of time when Britney Spears was about to release "Oops...I Did it Again" and `Nsync released "Bye, bye, bye", her single was shafted to a newer edgier pop sound. Mandy released "I Wanna be With You", the theme song from "Center Stage" which was what really put her on the same level as pop singers Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears. However, her newest effort "Mandy Moore" is what sets her apart.
Mandy finally lets us see her full potential with enterprising tracks like "One Sided Love" and "In my Pocket", and proves that beneath her sweet soprano voice is a more daring and more powerful voice that she really puts to use in songs like "Cry". Mandy is testimonial to the fact that pop is not all about inconsistent lyrics, scarcely clad blonde singers, breathy vocals and tunes that a four year old could write.
"Mandy Moore" is anything but classic pop; in fact songs like "Saturate me" and "You Remind Me", will make you wonder if it's even pop at all. "When I Talk to you" and "From Loving You", are mature and emotional but a pleasant surprise. Some people might go as far as to say that Mandy Moore is pop for an older, more sophisticated crowd.
But older fans of Moore's work won't miss the old Mandy too much when they listen to tracks like "Crush" and "Seventeen". Which are reminiscent of the better tracks from her other two CDs, like "Walk me Home" and "Your Face".
In conclusion, this CD is worth every penny, and is one of the better pop albums you can buy.
