Mandy Moore

So Real

Mandy Moore's debut

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
This is a pretty good Pop record. This kind of music was more popular in the late 90s than it is now; & yet it's still cool overall. I have to admit I am a sucker for bubblegum music like this. Not only do I like several songs from this disc, but Mandy Moore has a pretty voice. She does sound younger here; but of course, she was fourteen years-old when she recorded the tracks for "So Real". However, almost anyone can hear her musical talent.

This record is known as a "clone" of Britney Spears' hit first album, "...Baby One More Time"...which has been certified fourteen-times platinum in the U.S. The cover of the "So Real" CD is a picture of a younger Mandy, who resembles Spears. Not only that, but its music is quite similar to Britney's first music set as well. Poor Mandy. She was deprived of a better singing career because she was the fourth young female blond to break into the Pop scene in around 1998/1999 & that very thing led her to a ton of harsh critics. "Britney wanna-be". "Christina wanna-be". "Her voice is so weak & young & she can't sing". Wow. She took a load of crud for that. But, she got through it. She has a great heart & that shows through her awesome personality. This album is full of that. It's spicey, innocent, romantic, enchanting; etc. All in one. Definitely created & aimed for a younger audience. Mostly pre-teens.

Many people, mainly Moore fans, realize Mandy's very embarrassed to look back on this project. Miss Moore feels it was horribly produced &, nowadays, does not care for most of the songs from her debut disc. But, if you do like Pop music, you're likely to enjoy this. It was a part of Mandy's musical taste & style back then. Her first single, "Candy", was a smash. It's a great pop song & she sings it so awesomely. Her vocals are adorable & funky here. "Walk Me Home" is Mandy's third American single & it is absolutely beautiful. Very romantic lyrics (even though they're a little corny) & beats & Mandy's voice sounds so gorgeous. Like an angel's. "Lock Me In Your Heart" is also filled with love & romance & Mandy's lovely whispers/vocals (and corniness), but I do not care for that ballad. I just never have & I doubt I ever will. Can listen it, though.

My favorite songs from the CD, "So Real", are "So Real", "Candy", "Walk Me Home", & "I Like It". "Let Me Be The One", "Quit Breaking My Heart", & "What You Want" are all decant tracks.
