Mandy Moore

So Real

Refreshing, a lot of fun

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
This is actually th second Mandy Moore CD I bought; it's a lot more funky than the second, and I think I like it better. For the following reviews, 5 is the best, and one the worst.

1. "So real": 4.6. Has a cool attitude here, especially in the chorus.

2. "Candy": 4.8. I like this song so much more now that I've seen the video for it. it's kicky, it's fesh, it's fun!

3. "What you want": 1.6. Alas, this is a song that brings down the CD! not nearly as good as the rest, I recommend skipping it.

4. "Walk me home": 3.0. In respect for Mandy's feelings, I won't put this song that much. To her credit, her voice is superb; it doesn't sound canned, and is pure and honest. the lyrics, though...

5. "Lock me in your heart": 3.2. This is a so-so song. This is a melody that does sound fake, a charastic we usually don't see in Mandy's songs.

6. "Telephone": clever, I think, to lead up the next song with this.

7. "Quit breaking my heart": 3.9. This is song begins well, and has a good chorus. But it loses speed toward the end, sadly.

8. "Let me be the one": 4.0. A fun song, one which I really like. Not the best, but far from the worst.

9. "Not to young": 4.4. Very appropriate for Mandy, as she was only 16 when she sung this! I think everyone who buys this song can relate to the lyrics. She can do some pretty kewl stuff with her voice here.

10. "Love shot": 4.8. Probably one of the best on this CD. I like the effect her soft voice has on this almost metallic song.

11. "I like it": 1.6. A relatively weak song all the way around. Some times are better than others, but overall, pretty bad.

12. "Love for you always": 4.2. you hear the beginning, and think "oh, ugh", but mandy really picks up the song. it's a good one!

13. "Quit Breaking my heart [Reprise]": basically like the first version, only softer and, in my opinion, not as good.

My overall evaluation is that this is a really successful CD, and if I didn't know any better, I'd think Mandy was a veteran singer! She makes a fabulous debut. The CD almost loses steam toward the end, and I almost feel like Mandy could have spread out the good songs some more, but nevertheless a good collection of songs!!
