Mandy Moore

So Real

Mandy as sweet as Candy

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
She may be alot like pop princess Britney Spears, but Mandy Moore is still a talented young artist, who at 16 (15 when So Real was recorded) has produced some funky pop beats that can ensure imminent success. "So Real" is the debut album for Mandy, who followed it up with the more mature sounding "I Wanna Be With You". "Candy" was the album's debut single, and one of the many highlights. Her sweet sounding voice, a sexy presence on the videoclip and a pure pop background sound will prove to be Mandy's most successful song. In Australia, it went to No.2 on the charts and achieved Platinum sales. "So Real" is another funky, pop song that followed up "Candy", but unfortunately didn't carry on a top 5 success. "What You Want", "Let Me Be The One" and "Love Shot" are also hot funky pop songs that have a Britney-esque feel to them. This album doesn't have too many ballads, as her "I Wanna Be With You" album makes up for that, although "Walk Me Home" and "Quit Breaking My Heart" are light pop ballads that are much like Britney's "Sometimes", but not to the extreme of Jessica Simpson's "I Wanna Love You Forever". "Lock Me In Your Heart" is a mid-tempo r/b type dance/ballad that is an album highlight, as is the fantastic "Not Too Young", which fits Mandy's presence and voice and is definitely the best song on the album (I suggest if you've heard and like Britney's "Dont Go Knocking On My Door")and if released would go all the way. "Telephone Interlude" and "Quit Breaking My Heart reprise" are just album fillers and the remaining track "I Like It" a song that relies mostly on smooth r/b grooves sounds as if it should be written for a man, although Mandy pulls it off with astounding maturity, it was also penned by Backstreet member Howie D. I highly recommend this album.
