Mandy Moore

So Real

An actual GOOD pop album.

When I bought the CD for "Candy",I thought It was gonna be a "typical" pop album. (I still have yet to listen to the 98 degrees( 98 degrees and rising), backstreet boys (Millenium and Backstreet Boys), *NYSNC, and Britney Spears albums completely, and I had all those shortly after they came out!) I was SO wrong! Mandy may look like your average teenybopper on the outside, but she proves that you can have be pop and still have an album with depth. I actually don't like "Candy" anymore, if only because some the other songs on the CD are SO much better! The best songs on the CD are What You Want (the second single), So Real (the likely third single), Walk Me Home (the lone "ballad" on this Cd, so it'll probably be released as the last single, similar to what they did for "From the Bottom Of my Broken Heart" for Britney), I Like It, Love Shot, Love you For Always, and my personal fav, Not Too Young. these songs all have KILLER hooks and choruses, and the verses have rhythm. Mandy doesn't have the greatest voice, but it fits perfectly with the songs. It sounds innocent, but also slightly naughty when she wants it to. Hey, screw big notes, a girl from my generation is trying to define herself here! The songs don't talk about unrealistis B.S. like "loving someone forever". It talks about real stuff, like how us teens grow-up quickly, how we DO know what love is, and how we get hurt too. There's only THREE songs I can't stand, and they're "Candy" (only because it sounds so thin after you hear the other songs), and the "icky songs", which I call ballads that were WAY overdone, Lock me in Your Heart and Quit Breaking my Heart. You might like them though, but I just feel Mandy doesn't need to have a song where she wails and whines, because she doesn't need to do that. Although I don't like Quit Breaking my Heart, I DO like the last track, which is the reprise of that song. It's the same song, but the background music is differrent. She sounds so DAMN SWEET in it, i can't help but like it! I love the lyics on this album. Bottom Line: Who would've thought that the Kurt Cobain of my generation would be a cute 15-year old girl from the south?
