An Amazing Collection

Mandy Moore seemed to be the girl that'd be the one-hit wonder after her overtly bubblegum single "Candy" hit charts in December 1999, a little over a year since ubiquitous teen queen Britney Spears made her smash debut as a No. 1 chart-topping performer in 1998. Though "Candy" became a popular pop tune, it didn't offer anything unique...and it seemed that after releasing I Wanna Be With You in 2000 (the title song being a decent pop ballad) that this girl was through in the business, her 15 minutes of fame had dried up and the spotlight turned off. But then she hit charts with her delightfully mature-sounding Mandy Moore, the record becoming 2001's Best Pop Album in many reviews. Her voice was still the coy, innocently sweet (and soft-sounding) but she'd grown up and seemed to be trying to break free from the bonds of Britney-hood. But in 2003 she wowed audiences for real with her CD of covers called Coverage, and - now a full-time brunette to distinguish herself from other teenyboppers - was a prominent actress in many acclaimed films, her most recent being the hilarious Saved! also featuring Jena Malone and Macauley Caulkin. Mandy Moore's Best Of disc can hardly be called that, but the girl is definitely a performer to see, and is reviewed as 4 stars but rated 5 stars because of the excellent AOL Sessions bonus material on the DVD featuring her videos, showing us this girl can sing LIVE. Mandy Moore is definitely doing her career right unlike Britney, Christina and Jessica. Good job, Miss Moore!
