A different Manowar album

The Kings of Metal have returned in Warriors of the World, but they're not the same band you are used to. Thankfully, Manowar has not "sold out," but they are different.

This album seems to be a more somber, serious collection of Manowar songs. It's still filled with the power and passion we've come to demand from them, but the song seem to have a more mature feel to them, and not the typical "devil may care" attitude they usually express.

Half the songs on this album are melodic ballads, which would cause most metal bigots to turn their noses. The "metal bigots" are folks who think anything other than mind-bounding, hard riffing, drum smashing heavy metal isn't music. They're as bad as Christians who think anything heavier than Jars of Clay is the work of Satan. I know, I have been at both ends of the spectrum.

"Call to Arms" is a typical, strong Manowar opening, but it's in a strange contrast to the lighter, and very touching "The Fight for Freedom," a tribute to the victims of 9/11. "Nessun Dorma" is not metal, but it is outstanding and beautiful, proving again Eric Adams is one of the greatest singers on Earth!

"The March" is also very un-metal, but a fitting tribute to Wagner, and deserving so. Before Manowar, before Celtic Frost, and before Black Sabbath, there was Wagner, and without him, their would be no metal.

But there's plenty of the power of metal, with smashing songs like "Warriors of the World United," "Hands of Doom," and "Fight Until We Die," proving the Kings of Metal are still holding the throne.
