Glitter Sparkles With Perfection!

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
`Glitter' is exactly what I expected of Mariah - fantastic music. With more listens, it may even replace my existing favourite Mariah album, `Butterfly'. Here is my opinion of each song:

1. Loverboy (remix) - The song that many love to hate. Well not me. Ok, I agree that Loverboy isn't on the same level as other album openers such as `Fantasy' or `Honey', but it isn't terrible by any means. And it's certainly not hookless. I also have to admit, I was at first shocked by the video, but she's got it so she has every right to flaunt it I reckon. I prefer the remix to the original version - it's catchier.

2. Lead The Way - My favourite ballad on the album. I love the way `Loverboy' melts into the piano intro. This song really touches me, it such a beautiful, dazzling, passionate song and Mariah sings it with perfection. I was quite relieved when I heard this song because I was disappointed with the mediocre ballads from `Rainbow'. The bridge is the best part.

3. If We - Features Ja Rule, Nate Dogg and slightly reminds me of Jlo's `I'm Real' (I song I also really like) It has a catchy, bouncy chorus - I just read a review where someone said the chorus reminded them of `Always Be My Baby'. I can really see where he's coming from. One of my favourites on the album.

4. I Didn't Mean To Turn You On - Ok, I'm not sure about this one. I reckon with repeated listens I might like it more but currently I don't find it anything special. It's very retro and very eighties. Near the end all types of instruments are playing over each other making it incoherent.

5. Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica) - Yes! My favourite song on the album! Although Mariah isn't in it so much I don't think there is too much Mystikal. His vocals are wonderful and blend so well with Mariah's. I love the jazzy/hip hop feel it creates and the speak easy atmosphere. The video is amazing too! Mariah is so beautiful with curly hair on the swinging bench!

6. All My Life - Written by Rick James, you know it's gonnna be straight out of the eighties. Mariah sounds like she is really enjoying herself - which is nice to hear. It's infectious and sung so well. Much better than `I Disn't Mean To Turn You On'. A perfect party record.

7. Reflections - A sweet and pleasing ballad. One that I like better every time I listen to it. My only complaint is the chorus - I just think it could have been a bit better.

8. Last Night A DJ Saved My Life - A worthy cover of the original. You just want to dance as soon as you hear it! Mariah is very laid back here and I like the rapping, some people are saying it ruins the song but I don't think so. Maybe it could have been cut by a minute or something though!

9. Want You - Very eighties with various synth sounds. I like Mariah and Eric Bennet's vocals together. Not a standout, but still very engaging.

10. Never Too Far - Ok now it's my turn to be more critical. Many love this but for some reason I am really not feeling it. It just doesn't appeal to my senses like her other ballads. I've tried listening to it many times but I still don't like it. Oh well, it's only one small hiccup on the album.

11. Twister - Short and sweet, the `Petals' of `Outside' of the album. Not much more I can really say about it.

12. Loverboy - The original version, not as good as the remix but still bubbly.

Overall, another fantastic album - in her career she has not faltered one bit and that's what makes Mariah for me the greatest singer in the world.

Somewhat Disappointing

As a big fan of Mariah Carey's, I was anticipating the release of "Glitter," but I wasn't 100% pleased with it. First of all, nearly all of [ ... read complete review ]
