Mariah Carey

Rainbow

Her weakest effort to date...

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (6/10)
Before I say anything, you need to know that I love Mariah Carey. She is one of my favorite music artists along with Michael Jackson. So I am not some hater trying to diss her or anything. I am just being absolutely honest, so here goes:
"Rainbow" is, in my opinion, the weakest album Mariah has ever released. "Glitter" and "Charmbracelet" both surpass "Rainbow" by far. Here is a track-by-track review:
01. Heartbreaker: Fun, upbeat song. I love it! Jay-Z needs to get the heck out of it though (5/5 stars).
02. Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme): Good ballad, but nothing compared to her other ones (3/5 stars).
03. Bliss: HORRIBLE! This song is anything BUT bliss (0/5 stars).
04. How Much (feat. Usher): Um, ew? (0/5 stars).
05. After Tonight: It's OK, but sounds like it was recorded in the '50s because of the sound quality (3/5 stars).
06. X-Girlfriend: Fairly enjoyable hip-hop number featuring creative lyrics but failing to showcase Mariah's amazing voice (4/5 stars).
07. Heartbreaker (Remix feat. Da Brat & Missy Elliott): Um, this is like a Mariah-goes-trashy song. Vulgar lyrics featured by Missy and Da Brat (3/5 stars).
08. Vulnerability (Interlude): Interludes are pointless.
09. Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now): Probably the best track on the CD. Fairly good music, but again, nothing compared to the Mariah I love (4/5 stars).
10. Crybaby (feat. Snoop Dogg): OK, first of all, this fool Snoop Dogg needs to go back to the ghetto he came from. And second, this song [is bad] (1/5 stars).
11. Did I Do That?: Three words - what the hell? (0/5 stars).
12. Petals: Very personal song, the music is dull (2/5 stars).
13. Rainbow (Interlude): As I said before, interludes are pointless but this one is so pretty. Too bad this wasn't a song.
14. Thank God I Found You (feat. Joe & 98 Degrees): This should've been just Mariah. This album had far too many collaborations. In any case, it wasn't that great anyway (3/5 stars).
Basically, the only GOOD song on this CD was Heartbreaker (the original version, not the remix). "Glitter" was wonderful in comparison to "Rainbow." Check that album out, it is much better. And "Charmbracelet" is just as good. Hopefully Mariah will never create another "Rainbow" in her musical career. I will always love her though. She is forever #1 in my book! But take my advice: Buy another Mariah album instead of this one. It's not worth your money unless, of course, you're a diehard Mariah fan like so many of us out there...
