Amazing Marillion

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
Marillion's 10th studio album, and 6th since Steve Hogarth was brought in, is completely different from anything they'd ever attempted before. The experimentation paid off. Radiation is one of their best. At some points (Under The Sun, Cathedral Wall) Marillion are heavier than they'd ever been before. The production is loud and agressive, but that does not overshadow their progressive tendencies. Mark Kelly's keyboards are always there, providing original and sometimes haunting melodies.

Marillion are nothing if not varied, and Now She'll Never Know is one of their softest moments ever. It doesn't sound at all out of place, either. Steve Rothery's guitar is at its most Floydian on Born To Run, another highlight. This time Marillion discover the blues, and play it as if they'd been doing it for years.

I could go on and on, but truly, this is one amazing Marillion album. If you've never listened to them since Clutching At Straws, this may be the album that impresses you once again. While is it modern and certainly not a throwback, it is adventurous. It rocks hard enough, and the lyrics are splendid.

They saved the best moment for last: Memory Of Water (Big Beat Mix). I'm not a fan of remixes at all, but this radical remix is better than the original. As Lemmy Kilmister would say, don't try dancing to it--you'll break both your legs!

Just try it. These guys definately knew what they were doing on this album.
