Antichrist Superstar

Ooooh....Nice...

I have a turmoil inside me. I'm trying to decide which album I like more, this or Golden Age of Grotesque (don't know why everyone hates that one). Compared to their later releases, this one sounds very raw and gothic, and the lyrics contain a lot more screaming a hissing than before, and the subject matter for the songs is far darker than anything to come before or after (even Holy Wood, which I see more as a polished clone of Antichrist Superstar, wasn't THIS dark).

1. Irresponsible Hate Anthem: This song dosen't do that much for me, I don't know why. Great, heavy start to the album though. 4/5

2. The Beautiful People: Brilliant. Heavy and well thought out. Has one of the best introductions in history! 5/5

3. Dried Up, Tied And Dead to the World: A little downbeat compared to the previous two, and a great song as a result! 4/5

4. Another one I don't really like that much. The singing gets on my nerves a little. 3/5

5. Little Horn: Why does everyone hate this? IT'S F**KING BRILLIANT! 5/5

6. Cryptorchild: Weird. 3/5

7. Deformography: Less weird, better for it. 4/5

8. Wormboy: Weird, not fantastic, but I like it. 4/5

9. Mister Superstar: Ths song is perverted. Like the instruments, the lyrics are really disturbing. 4/5

10. Angel With Scabbed Wings: Great rock anthem. One of my faves. 5/5

11. Kinderfield: A bit of a turnaround. Very, very spooky! 3/5

12. Antichrist Superstar: Another weird one, but catchy chorus. 4/5

13. 1996: This song rocks my world. Fast, catchy and the best song on the album. Curiously, it's the only song where he so much as mentions "Antichrist Superstar". Maybe Marilyn got the titles the wrong way round. 6/5

14. Minute of Decay: Another spooky one, but better than Kinderfield. 4/5

15. The Reflecting God: another superb song, my second favourite. 5/5

16. Man That You Fear: Brillant. A fantastic, gothic way to end the album that really moves you the first few times you hear it. 5/5

Hmmmmmmm!

I am not a Marilyn Manson fan. But I think a lot of people who are not his fans own at least one album by him. Why. Well the reason is this. [ ... read complete review ]
