If you liked Dire Straits, you will enjoy Mark Knopfler's solo album, SAILING TO PHILADELPHIA. It offers the bluesy style and atmosphere of Dire Straits, largely because Knopfler did much of the writing and vocals for that group, but this new effort is no rehash. There are guest vocals by James Taylor and Van Morrison. The Taylor collaboration on the titular song is very interesting, an intertwining of monologues inspired by Thomas Pynchon's novel, MASON & DIXON. Knopfler puts verve behind a genuine cerebral perspective with music that alternates between the thoughtful, seductive and edgy. His voice is in top shape as is the guitar playing.
