Most people will say it's not up to par with Yourself or Someone Like You/More Than You Think You Are. Well, I wouldn't exactly say that. It has fewer great songs (I wouldn't say any of their music is below good), but the songs that are good are very good. Here's a run-down.
1. Angry-An excellent opener. I had a situation when I first got into this song, that fit perfectly. It's a unique opener and a fun song overall. The lyrics are good, as per usual with MB20. 5/5
2. Black & White People-Okay, the album takes a steep drop. Don't get me wrong, I like this song. It's just it's easy to get sick of it after only a small amount of time. Catchy though. 3.5/5
3. Crutch-Has a nice country feel to the start. Another good track. 4/5
4. Last Beautiful Girl-Starts with a techno-esque riff that leads into a good song. Has a 'don't want you back' feel to it and is easy to enjoy. Makes it to the top 3 favorite songs of mine. 5/5
5. If You're Gone-The most well-known song on the album. Overplayed but an amazing song nonetheless, incorporating a horns section. Overplayed, but good. 4.5/5
6. Mad Season-Another great song. It has a rock-side of MB20 that's likeable. A solid track. Also a third single, though it seems a bit obscure as a single... 4/5
7. Rest Stop-Another amazing. Great start and lyrics. Nice track to keep the album going midway-through. 4.5/5
8. The Burn-A good song as well overall. A softer song of the album that's enjoyable. 4/5
9. Bent-Another harder MB20 song. It was the first single, and the song that got me into them. The magic wore off after a while but it's still a great song. 4.5/5
10. Bed of Lies-In the top 3 favorite songs of mine, probably #3. A softer song that's good for breakups. Sad and enjoyable. 5/5
11. Leave-By far the best song on the album, in my opinion. The soft sound that makes Matchbox Twenty unique and the amazing lyrics Rob Thomas is capable off. They even use a flute in this song for a good soft touch. The point of the song is good as well. The best song on the album, IMO. Then again I have a thing for soft songs (My favorite songs on the other albums were Back 2 Good and Hand Me Down). Still just great. 6/5
12. Stop-Eh, not very big on this song. It's slightly worse than Black & White people, making it the worst song on the album in my opinion... 3/5
13. You Won't Be Mine-Another amazing song like Bed of Lies. Longer and softer with another dish out of amazing lyrics by Rob. A great last song (not including the hidden track). 5/5
Well, overall I'd say that this album isn't worse than the others. I'd say it's a TINY bit worse their debut but a tad bit better than More Than You Think You Are. It's still a great album and like all of MB20's work, deserves a 5/5. Though not their best, this is definitley a good starting album.
