Mad Season

You need this CD if you ever been in and out of relationship

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
This is by far my favorite CD. I bought it while recovering from a breakup and I felt as though Rob Thomas had been in my relationship. The words are powerful and universal - yet the every song feels so personal that I only listen to it in private. As always with Matchbox Twenty, it all has a great sound, not too poppy and not too gritty. The guitar and vocals are satisfyingly varied from song to song, but do all tie together. Virtually all the songs are about trying and failing and trying again to pick yourself up after a relationship ends, and the shock of facing a new idea of your future. None of the emotions are cliched or worn out, but fresh and familiar, comforting. "Black and White People" is about sort of living in a dramatized version of reality, "Leave" deals with sorting out what went wrong and what was right, "Mad Season" is about being frustrated with emotional distance after being so close. Overall, if you just experienced a serious breakup, or if you've ever been in a relationship at all, this CD will bring comfort.
