(10/10)This is where it all came together for Matthew Sweet. Chock full of hooks, GIRLFRIEND plays like a greatest hits set, with one dynamic track after another. Excellent songwriting, explosive guitar form Robert Quine and Richard Lloyd and emotionally succinct performances create a masterpeice of the power pop genre. Although Matthew has made some decent albums since this, I doubt that he will ever top it. Use this as a yardstick to measure newer songwriters like Peter Yorn or John Mayer(they are not worthy!).
