This album has been commented on and reviewed a million times. Everybody knows about Mayhem's history and legend so I'll keep this review strictly about the music. Hellhammers drumming is w/o question the best ever heard from the early 1990's black metal scene. It drives this album along w/ precision, force and skill. Euronymous also turns in a defining metal guitar performance. I really believe his style changed the way black metal guitarists currently play. The atmosphere here is also among the best I've heard from a metal band. The only problem w/ this album really isnt even a problem. And thats the vocals. Since DEAD had already killed himself, Mayhem was forced to have a studio vocalist do the vocals. Atilla did his job vocally, so nothing against him personally. But these songs were written w/ DEAD, for the purpose of having DEAD's vocals over them. I prefer his voice on these songs. But unfortunately the production and sound quality on 'Live in Leipzig' is so bad that i actually listen to this more. Anyway, if your into black metal or want to get into it, buy this album as soon as possible.
