Don't bother

It is sad, and more than a little scary, to see how many reviews use the word "classic" to describe this roadkill of an album. To do so further reduces the word to utterly uselessness.

"Bat Out of Hell" remains what is was in 1978 -- a horrifically bad set of songs made all the worse by the bombastic and pompous production. One gets the sense that the singer has some power in his voice, but the fact that he uses it on tripe such as this makes it all a waste of studio time. The fact that people still listen to this today just goes to show that no one has even gone broke underestimating the taste of the American public. If you have not had a copy of this for the past 23 years you need to think long and hard: If you have gone so long without it, why buy it now?
