There are great songs and there are great RECORDS. "Bat Out of Hell" is a great RECORD. Every song is legendary and known by generation after generation of listener. There has rarely been musical magic like this. Jim Steinman, rock's greatest dramaturgue, serves us seven moments that are crystal clear to anyone who ever survived being a teenager, first love and the first lay. Meat Loaf's voice is here more larger-than-life than the man himself -- which is no small feat.

Interestingly enough, this record's one 'unknown' song "For Crying Out Loud" is generally considered one of rock's greatest songs, a piece of music far larger than the boundaries of traditional pop could ever hope to contain.

"Bat Out of Hell" will survive longer than Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman. It is a universal piece of rock and roll storytelling. Anyone who does not own this record does not have a collection of rock and roll records worth mentioning. A must have. Period.
