The ominous undertones of "Bat out of Hell" make for 10 minutes of sheer power, rock and roll in its purest form. "Hot summer night" takes us back to adolescent love in the '60s, and "Paradise by the dashboard light" encapsulates everybody's First Time. But my favorite on this disc is the strange mini-symphony "For Crying Out Loud," which puns on the title phrase as an expression of frustration and a moan of ecstacy. Only Steinman could pull this off without it sounding like a silly stunt, and only Meat could have the sincere emotion in his voice to sing it.
Highly recommended for younger fans who know only the second Bat, and for any fan of rock opera. Not recommended for those who exclusively like quiet, sincere, understated music.
