Quality is the keyword, Hard Rock the name. This album was released in 1977 and millions were sold. The album contains superb songs about dawning sexuality, romantic teenager love and a cold outside world. Most songs are fine, some are sublime. The title song, "Bat out of Hell" for instance. It can be interpreted in two layers. First the realistic one: a boy visits his girl friend at night and spends the night with her, but has to be back before dawn, or else his parents will grow suspicious. Once he's too late, takes risks and crashes with his motorbike. Then the mythical one: a vampire visits an angel, his love, in a creepy limbo (Earth). He has to go back before dawn. One time, he crashes and he starts to foam in the heat of the rising sun, but his love for the angel won't die: his heart survives and flies away. Paradise By The Dashboard Light is also sublime. A classic teenager love: making love in a car. The girl tries to bind the boy on her, and finally succeeds. Nice interaction between boy & girl. The best of Meat Loaf, and even the one of the best albums ever made. It's a shame not all the songs are as good as these two. If they would, I'd give it 5 stars.
