Bat Out Of Hell

Classic, silly, fun, great album

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
This is a great CD that works on a lot of different levels. It was originally conceived as a parody of a Bruce Springsteen LP (think "Born To Run" - era), and in fact sports the drummer (Max Weinberg, now with Conan O' Brian) and the pianist (Roy Bittan) from the E Street Band. If you take the album as a joke it works brilliantly - good, harmless fun. But the music here can also work straight up - songs like Two Out Of Three Aint Bad, You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth and Paradise By The Dashboard Light are strangely affecting if you are listening in a certain mood, and contain relationship truisms at least as insightful as all those NY Times bestsellers. There's never been another recording quite like this. If you don't "get" it, or don't "like" it, move on - nothings going to change your mind. For a segment of the population, however, this is one of those ones that gets thrown on at 1:00am when you are sitting around on a summer night with old friends. It's fun to sing along (and sometimes dance) to.
