A good album, with some huge flaws.

"Countdown To Extinction" is Megadeth's entrance to the mainstream. The tracks are slower and much more simplistic than their masterpiece "Rust In Peace" that came out two years earlier. This album has its high points,but some songs should have just been left out because they are pretty bad. Here is a rundown of all the songs:

1)"Skin O' My Teeth": The album starts of well with Skin O' My Teeth. It is a very good song, melodic, but raw. It has a good solo and lyrics about failed suicide attempts. Has a cool drum intro. My favorite on the album along with "Symphony Of Destruction." 10/10

2)"Symphony Of Destruction": Megadeth's biggest hit. It has a good verse and chorus, and cool lyrics. Very simple, but very good. The solo is great. 10/10

3)"Architecture Of Agression": The heaviest track on the album, very cool riffs and a good chorus. Not as good as the first two, but this is still worth listening to. 8/10

4)"Forclosure Of A Dream": The song begins with a soft intro and verse. It builds up at the chorus and contains some great soloing by Dave and Marty. 8/10

5)"Sweating Bullets": The WORST Megadeth song EVER. Horrible lyrics with bad vocals. Skip it. 0/10

6)"This Was My Life": The album picks up again here. A melodic rocker with good lyrics. I believe it is about capital punishment. 8/10

7)"Countdown To Extinction": Another good tune. Very melodic, with some great bass lines. The lyrics are nothing special, but this is a great song. 8/10

8)"High Speed Dirt": A song about skydiving. Very bland with dumb lyrics. It does contain good leads by Dave and Marty, especially the blues solo, but it does not really save this track. 3/10

9)"Psychotron": Another stupid song with bad lyrics and bad vocals. "Part bionic, and organic, not a cyborg, call him Psychotron." Please. 2/10

10)"Captive Honour": It doesn't get much better. Starts off as a ballad, and then it becomes a stupid courtroom scene. It has some good solos by Dave and Marty, but like High Speed Dirt, it can not save this song. 2/10

11)"Ashes In Your Mouth": It gets better! A great song with more awesome solos by Dave and Marty. A good way to close the album. 8/10

Overall, this is a pretty good album, but there are some pretty bad songs. You should still buy the album, the good songs are simply excellent. Megadeth's next album "Youthanasia" is a bit better than this album.
