Hidden Treasures

Awesome compilation

[Note that what Amazon is selling you is an import. Those first four tracks aren't on the domestic release.]

Megadeth, until the release of this compilation, had several tracks not available on an album. But with its release those days were at an end! As added bonuses, a new cover song and some unreleased demos are featured on this release. Nearly every track is great.

1) A Tout Le Monde - One of Megadeth's few soft songs, this one actually features the chorus in French! Could you ever picture Dave speaking that language, and playing slowly at the same time? Well, here's where that becomes reality! This track was originally featured on the Youthanasia album. A-

2) Symphony Of Destruction (Demo) - Verses in this track are mid-tempo and heavy, and the chorus seems to be an odd mix of heavy and melodic stylings, making for an interesting track. This demo is previously unreleased, but the normal version of this track appeared on the Countdown To Extinction album. A

3) Architecture Of Aggression (Demo) - Hard rocker with some good vocal and instrument usage. This demo is previously unreleased, but the normal version of this track appeared on the Countdown To Extinction album. A-

4) New World Order (Demo) - This track features GREAT instrument usage, but the vocals are just bogus. This demo is previously unreleased, and a completed version was never released. B

5) No More Mr. Nice Guy - This track is fast paced, and the group manages to fare well, assuming it was their only recording as a three-piece band. This Alice Cooper Cover was originally featured on the Shocker soundtrack. A+

6) Breakpoint - The closest thing to raw thrash on the album, this is what Dave's all about. The lyrics reflect his angry personality well, as do the heavy and fast guitars. This track was originally featured on the Super Mario Bros. Soundtrack. A

7) Go To Hell - A heavy, and darker track, this one features guitar playing similar to that of Metallica's Phantom Lord. This track originally appeared on the Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey Soundtrack. A-

8) Angry Again - This one proves to be the perfect combination of heavy metal with lighter melodies, but that doesn't mean it's a bad track. This track originally appeared on the Last Action Hero Soundtrack. A

9) 99 Ways To Die - Mid-fast tempo rocker with a lighter sound than most other tracks featured here, but it's still a killer. This track originally appeared on the Beavis and Butthead Experience. A

10) Paranoid - Fast paced track, which is a good fusion of classic metal with the progressive metal sound all Megadeth's own. This Black Sabbath cover was originally featured on Nativity In Black - A Tribute To Black Sabbath. A+

11) Diadems - Slower track that is still a heavy one. This track was originally featured on Tales From The Crypt Presents Demon Knight. A

12) Problems - Fast hard rocker with a lighter punk-oriented sound to it than most Megadeth tracks. Sweet experiment. This Sex Pistols cover is previously unreleased. A

Hidden Treasures is an appropriate title for this underrated compilation. Get this if you like Megadeth and you will almost certainly be satisfied. Remember the import has four bonus tracks!

Pure Megadeth to the extreme

This album is what Megadeth should be. Its not as fast as the earlier stuff but it made me want to go out and break something. If 99 Ways [ ... read complete review ]
