...or were they even thinking? It's hard to imagine that Megadeth would release an album such as this. "Risk" is, at least in my not-so-humble opinion, the worst release in Megadeth's library.

To be sure, there are hints that the old bruising, smashing, hard-nosed Megadeth still lurks behind this facade, but that's all they are--hints. I doubt even the presence of longtime drummer Nick Menza would have helped. Dave and Marty just aren't playing the ol' guit-fiddle like they used to, and Marty left the band soon after "Risk" hit the shelves. The subsequent album, "The World Needs a Hero," is an excellent comeback from the edge, but that's neither here nor there. We're talking about "Risk."

Maybe Dave and the rest of the guys wanted to inject a little more passion and a little less aggression into "Risk." Well, they certainly did, but I, for one, was disappointed with the result. Songs such as "I'll Be There for You" are just too sappy for us to identify with Megadeth, and others, such as "Insomnia," are just too processed.

"Risk" is not the worst album in existence, but this is Megadeth's weakest release. I advise that you do NOT choose this album as your intro to Dave Mustaine's brainchild, and that you should avoid it like plague unless you're a die-hard Megadeth fan.
