Approve or disapprove of it, this is indeed one of Megadeth's more adventurous -- and, yes, RISKy -- offerings. It doesn't work at all times ("Crush 'Em" is just too obvious an attempt at writing an arena anthem), but when it does ("Prince Of Darkness" and "Breadline") it is impressive hard rock of a very high order. While even the best material here fails to reach the dizzying heights of "Countdown To Extinction", "Youthanasia", and "Rust In Peace", at least Megadeth is sticking to its metal guns, something that can't be said for Metallica, which long ago abandoned any attempt at continued artistic relevance. In the end, I like this album considerably more than 1997's "Cryptic Writings", which tended to sound rather homogeneous. While "Risk" isn't prime Megadeth, it is nothing to be ashamed of. The band continues to mature without abandoning their roots. It takes a few spins, but this disc eventually grabs a hold of you and your player.

My Favorite Megadeth album!

Risk was my first Megadeth album and turned me into a Megadeth fan. I really don't see why so much people are against this album.
