Megadeth

Rust In Peace

An untouchable album...

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
Definitely the best metal album of all time. Megadeth got the new lineup yet again, and Marty Friedman and Nick Menza were the perfect fit for Megadeth, as it would show from 1990 and on. The riffs on this album can't possibly get more complex, from Holy Wars to Rust in Peace, they are amazing.

1. Holy Wars...The Punishment Due: The best Megadeth song of all time, without a doubt. Starting off with an awesome intro, going into a long spectacle of riffs by Dave and Marty before the lyrics. The riff during the verse is maybe the most complex riff I have ever seen, and Dave does a good job singing on this song as well. Before we head into the slower section of the song, Marty pulls off a grade-A solo. Into the bridge, Dave does a deeper style voice, while not an amazing part, it serves as a good leadoff to another great part. While I may not be a huge fan of fast songs with slow parts, this song is one of few that I like that way. The riffs, Marty's solos, are all perfectly blended into the middle to form a perfect part. Leading into Dave's solo, things pick up again, and finally burst when his impossible solo comes and charges hard all the way into the ending.
Rating: A++

2. Hangar 18: Beginning a mid-tempo intro, and going straight into the Call of Ktulu part that Dave wrote, serving as a good riff, used in a completely different style. The part after, though, is probably the best usage of harmony guitars of all time, as they both flow so perfectly into a superb riff. The actual song contains some great singing by Dave, great lyrics, and even more awesome riffs. The highlight of this song, though, is the soloing done by Marty (mainly) and Dave. Absolutely packed with solos, Marty proves to me why he is the best metal guitarist of all time.
Rating: A+

3. Take No Prisoners: Nice opening, but the highlight is by far the middle where it all gets faster and more energetic, and the lyrics get more energetic. A weaker point on the album, but still not a bad song.
Rating: B+

4. Five Magics: The first 5 seconds of the song rock, then the next minute doesn't, just a bit draggy, as a shorter part there would have made the song feel more complete.. The rest of the song, however, is brilliant. A midtempo song, it packs a punch with the mini-solos thrown in seemingly everywhere, and you don't know what's coming! Not to be missed.
Rating: A

5. Poison Was the Cure: The first bass part is good, and then the rest of the song is just simply awesome. If Holy Wars does not have the most complex riff of all time, then this song does. The electric speed of it, with a great bridge into a super-solo by Marty. If only this song was longer...but that would be a tough thing to do!
Rating: A

6. Lucretia: Probably the best intro on the album, but after that, the song seems rather lacking. Overall, it just seems kinda, "blah". But yet, the solos done by Marty and Dave are just complete, overall good solos.
Rating: B+

7. Tornado of Souls: One of the best songs on the album, and the whole beginning shows you why. Starting from the opening riff, and the one right after that, shows you just how good Megadeth can write riffs. The whole song up to the bridge seems just a little bit too slow, which prevented me from giving it a A, but everything after the solo is perfect, like the solo itself.
Rating: A

8. Dawn Patrol: Not exactly a true song, but hey! It's got a cool bass line!
Rating: ?

9. Rust in Peace...Polaris: Polaris, now that is a cool word! The riff during "tremble you weaklings..." is perfect, couldn't be much better, and the chorus is great, too. The Polaris part of the song lacks something, but still is good.
Rating: B+

Definitely an album to get...and it is MUCH better than Metallica's 1990 release as well...
