Megadeth

Youthanasia

The most depressing album that I've heard...

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (6/10)
Megadeth's 3rd release with their super-lineup of Mustaine, Ellefson, Friedman and Menza, proves to be quite disappointed. The first two songs are great, Reckoning Day, a great melodic thrasher, shows Megadeth going with the times yet still keeping in touch with their older stuff.  Train of Consequences is just a great song, best on the album by far.  However, the next three songs make me want to kill myslef.
Not that they are so bad I want to kill myself, its just they are SO depressing!  The verse in Addicted to Chaos, all of A Tout Le Monde, and the verse of Elysian Fields, what the heck?

1. Reckoning Day: A great melodic thrasher and a super-heavy chorus and some great small solos by Marty.  Obviously a solid song.
Rating: B+

2. Train of Consequences: I just can't get enough of this song it's so good.  The verse is great, which contains some of Dave's craziest singing.  And, in the second and third choruses Dave shows off his best voice ever.  The solo is great, and perfectly composed as well.
Rating: A

Those two songs are simply great, and after that the album has a few moments, but nothing special. But really, you have the ultra slow Youthanasia, the sickening Family Tree, and "the repeat the riff" song, Blood of Heroes. WHile the rest of the album is lacking, there are two more bright points. The Killing Road is a solid metal song and Victory is just plain awesome with some crazy solos. Only get this album if you want Countdown to Extinction to be more progressive.

Very underrated

Youthanasia is a great CD. It also happened to be the CD that got me into Megadeth. It is not as fast as it's previous releases, but both [ ... read complete review ]
