A fantastic mature effort!

I read somewhere that before going into the studios for recording, Mustaine made Friedman write "I will not widdly-dee" about 500 times. True or not....the shredding is sure absent. The band has dropped the solo-till-u-drop-dead-attitude, and replaced it with much mature lead solos,..and in a couple of cases, no solos at all!! Take "Reckoning Day" and "Elysian Fields" as examples...the former has no straight solos as such, and the latter...has a harmonica solo!! Now, if thats not a big risk for Megadeth, what is????? Check out the solo in "Addicted to Chaos"...a masterpiece of agony and restraint...brilliant. Megadeth has touched many topics here...to family incest ("Family Tree"), a personal addiction ("Addicted to Chaos"), glimpse from a suicide note ("A Tout le Monde", which is perhaps the best song in this CD), a wasted society ("Youthanasia"), an apocalyptic end ("Black Curtains"), and the strangely self-praising punkish parody ("Victory"). The lyrics are a notch better than the previous effort, and the band has made the music more song oriented...but hey, watch out for the volume knob...this band still smokes....!!!
