Whether or not you like this CD depends a lot on what type of 'metal' you were brought up on. If you're strictly into thrash, then this or 'Countdown to Extinction' probably won't be your cup of tea, maybe even a let-down. On the other hand if you, like myself, were raised on 70's and NWBHM metal bands such as Sabbath, Priest, Zeppelin, Maiden et al., then you'll find this to be a very satisfying recording almost reminiscent of late 70's/early 80's heavy metal. Sure, they have evolved like every band does to some degree, but overall I'd say that 'Youthanasia' is a very HEAVY, solid, consistent and musically superior recording. Mind you, I also like the most brutal and uncompromising of the thrash bands (which I admit took me a little while to get used to) such as Slayer, who today can still pull off a good thrash album. However, having every 'Deth album from 'Killing is my Business...' I still believe that this is, without question, far more listenable than Metallica's disappointing 'Load' and 'Reload'. Perhaps with 'Risk' it's safe to say that Dave Mustaine and co. have finally gone too far over the hill like his old band-mates. Grab it and Enjoy!
