Do we have to compare this instant classic to any Jay-Z release in the past 5 years? NO. Jay-z is an unremarkable rapper who has become a favorite of the white media with his high profile girls and his simple, empty lyrics. If you want to go to cancun with your boys and bump a cd to get all the girls dancing, take blueprint,1,2,3,4.... if you want to listen to a real MC, put in NAS , God's Son,Stillmatic, Illmatic, It was Written, and listen to some of the most complex lyrics. There is no comparison. In Jay-z you are speaking of about a rapper who's most powerful lines are never his own. He is so unoriginal that he bites other artists album names( Blueprint, Blueprint 2). There is no comparison. Nas, BIG, 2Pac, Krs one,Rakim, Chuck D, Mr.Cheeks( lost boyz days), Prodigy and Eminem(have to put him up here), Wu-tang, slick rick, these are the artists that shaped and changed their craft. Jay-z is an unremarkable lyricist but a great selfpromoter.
