Nas

God's Son

God's Son...incredible

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
Usually it takes Nas a long time between albums to make a classic, but suprisingly, he has made 3 classic albums in the past couple years ("Stillmatic", "Lost Tapes", "God's Son"). If your looking for rhymes like on "I Am" or "Illmatic" for that reason, YOU WILL NOT FIND THEM HERE. This is a brand new flava from Nas that finds him more consicous and well...happy then in previous albums. This is not as good as Still or Ill but it brings something fresh to the table, soemthing that we haven't seen a million times over. Here's my track-by-track ratings:

01. Get Down (5/5) - An amazing track to start off an amazing album. Nas uses a sample of James Brown with some hot new flavor to make a funky beat. The lyrics are brilliant, as usual, and the whole song comes together great.

02. The Cross (4/5) - I really like the lyrics and beat but for some reason this one hasn't struck me as "brilliant" yet. Still a good one for the album.

03. Made You Look (4/5) - If i hadn't have seen the video a million times and heard it a million times on the radio, i might've gave it higher stars. But i did, so it gets 4 stars for being a hot track, just way too overplayed.

04. Last Real N**** Alive (3/5) - WHY do Nas (and Jay-Z) have to keep dissing each other? It's over, nobody cares about the "beef" anymore. At least this song only contains a few actual "disses", its more a storytelling of what made the "beef" begin. The album definitely could've done without this one.

05. Zone Out feat. Bravehearts (4/5) - Pretty good. A really hot beat with some average lyrics from Nas and the Bravehearts.

06. Hey Nas feat. Kelis & Claudette Ortiz from City High (4/5) - Good raps from Nas, but i just don't care for the chorus at all. Maybe i should give it a few more listens.

07. I Can (5/5) - Even though this was on MTV (when they actually play videos) every 5 minutes, it still has the beat and lyrics to keep me listening.

08. Book Of Rhymes (5/5) - Not only a HOT beat but Nas goes through his "rhyme books" and spits various flows, a funny and still hot song.

09. Thugz Mansion feat. 2Pac (Nas Acoustic) (5/5) - Great work on this song. I liked the original but this one still brings way more on it. You can also find this hot track on 2Pac's own "Better Dayz" album.

10. Mastermind (5/5) - Hot beat, hot lyrics...hot song.

11. Warrior Song feat. Alicia Keys (3/5) - Not as good as i expected. Nas does some OK raps but i don't like most of the song.

12. Revolutionary Warfare (4/5) - Hot, but i'm not crazy about it or anything.

13. Dance (5/5) - A touching song dedicated to his mother. Has some very inspirational lyrics.

14. Heaven (4/5) - Not the perfect way to end the album, but a very hot song featuring Jully Black. I think Nas should've added the "Made You Look" remix with Jadakiss & Ludacris to the end of the album, but for some reason he didn't.

Overall Grade - 4 Stars

On the bonus disc you get 3 bonus songs, none of which are very good. The bonus songs are "Thugz Mirror (Freestyle)", "P**** Killz" and "The G.O.D". The bonus disc also features a CD-Extra for your computer. The Nas slideshow is available on this Extra.

In total, Nas doesn't make near close an effort as Stillmatic, but still brings a very hot album.
