Nas

Stillmatic

Not Illmatic, but damn close

When Nas released this album, it looked as though Jay-Z was the king of New York. Jay had released "Takeover" and many people wondered if Nas could come back. Well, with this album he proved that he was far from done. From beginning to end, this album is filled with dope songs.

1) Stillmatic (Intro) - A short intro, hot beat, nice start to the album

2) Ether - What can I say about this one? Nas definitely came back hard at Jay and proved that he was still the man on the east coast. The third verse in this song is bananas.

3) Got Urself A Gun - The first single off the album, a nice follow up to Ether.

4) Smokin' - One of the weaker songs on the album in my opinion, but it still ain't bad.

5) You're Da Man - This song is fire, one of my favorites on the entire album. Nas comes with some ill lines here, a definite classic.

6) Rewind - The concept of this song is crazy, spitting an entire song backwards, no hook. Again, another dope song.

7) One Mic - This definitely was played out but the song was dope.

8) 2nd Childhood - Not up to the standard of some of the tracks preceding it, but if this was done by anyone else, it would be a hot song.

9) Destroy & Rebuild - Controversial to say the least, Nas goes at a whole bunch of cats from Queens on this track. A definite must-listen.

10) The Flyest - Nas and AZ cannot make a bad track, and this one is no different. Both cats come with ill verses, and then when they go back and forth on the last verse it is just icing on the cake. One of the hottest songs on the album, and one of my favorite tracks off any of Nas' albums.

11) Braveheart Party - One of the weakest tracks in my opinion. I'm not really a fan of the Bravehearts, so I'm not really feelin' this track.

12) Rule - Another dope track. Nas spits some real sh*t here, talking about problems in America and how they are ignored by our own leaders, I like this one.

13) My Country - Hot track. Nas talking about growing up poor and how he handled the situation he was in.

14) What Goes Around - Another track with a theme similar to the previous two, and again, it's a hot one.

15) Every Ghetto - This is a nice way to finish the album, yet again, it's a hot track.

Overall, this album is dope and there are really only two or three tracks that aren't very good. It is definitely one of Nas' best albums, and it's a must-have for your hip-hop collection.

I'm not really a hip hop fan, but when I heard this Album, I was hooked on the "thug poet" known as Nas. Almost every track on her [ ... read complete review ]
