The album starts off with the Stillmatic intro. In fact it's one of the best intro's i've ever heard - the rhymes are complete fire, and the lyrics are crazy. This is just a beginning to the album - expect the rest of the album to be like this. Hot rhymes, and lyrics with nice beats. The 2nd track Ether is a diss track to Jay-Z. Ether is probably the hottest track on the album, and Nas kills Jay-Z like KRS-ONE killed MC Sha on the bridge is over. the next few tracks are all stand out tracks but Rewind is just amazing. Nas spits a track from the ending and goes to the beggining without missing a beat - showing that he can tell a story like back in the old days. The next huge standouts are One Mic and 2nd Childhood. One Mic is an excellent song about how Nas only needs One Mic to tell his stories. One mic to reach to everyone - its a very deep song. 2nd Childhood is about people who live on the streets and never get out of the ghetto - they never grow up and never lose there ignorance.
The only songs on the album that are remotely weak are Rule, and Braveheart Party. Rule is a song that's way too pop to be on a Nas album - especially to show that's he back. Braveheart Party is a good song, and a solid beat by Swizz Beats - but Mary J seems out of place on this track and wouldve been better suited on another song or not on the album at all.
Overall Nas's Stillmatic is complete redemption of nasty Nas and is easily his 2nd best album (behind Illmatic).
