Nas

Stillmatic

An Amazing Masterpiece

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
Finally all the Nas critics can shut their yaps about him and his quote unquote "falling off". The man has been creating masterpieces since 1996 but no one had enough of an open mind to realize it. There is a difference between this an Illmatic. Illmatic was all about nasty Nas and the amazing street poetry. You can see the obvious growth from then to now. The main difference is he ditched the boring 2-note, 1-instrument beats and has some amazing beats in stillmatic to go with the amazing lyrics. And yes I will say it, One Mic is Nas's best song ever. He is able to switch the beat from fast to slow, loud to soft, and his delivery changes from soft to hard. The deepest and most amazing verses accompany the amazing production. The only suspect beat on the album was "Ether", but who was paying attention to the beat anyway? All ears were on the lyrics where Nas hurls diss rhymes at Jay-Z, which is what we were all expecting. He flips rhymes with his counterpart AZ on "The Flyest"; to go along with that track there is a nicely sung chorus. "Rewind" is another amazing feat in which he tells the story in reverse. Two other pristine tracks include "Rule", and "My Country" where Nas takes a political stand in both songs. Nas says the country wants him out because he knows too much about what's going on. "You're Da Man" includes another tight beat with more tight lyrics from Nas. Another worthy banger is "Smokin" with more

amazing wordplay. Production for "Smokin" comes from Nas also.

One last thing before I conclude the review. I've noticed that people have said that Nas pays homage to tupac and biggie in "Got yourself a Gun". He references one line to tupac ("me and tupac were soldiers of the same struggle") and doesn't even mention biggie. This can only beg the question, what source did these reviewers get this from?
