Nas has always been considered one the best lyricists since he dropped "Illmatic" in 1994. Some say he failed to impress on "It Was Written." He can't fail with a classic like "Stillmatic." It took Nas 7 years to drop another classic since "Illmatic." Those who said Nas fell off swallowed they words after they heard this gem. All the songs are ill except may'be when Braveheart dropped by. Nas spills his lyrics over banging beats. Watch for Nas killin on Jay-Z on the song "Ether" and Cormega and other Queensbridge rappers on "Destroy & Rebuild." Hiphop fans have been waiting for classics like this since 1996. Hiphop seemed to fall off because there were'nt many albums you could call classic. Than in late 2001 a classic finally came and the artist Nas was reborn and his fans were reborn after waiting for another classic for so long. The beats are exceptional and the lyrics are let out effortlessly. I crown "Illmatic" a classic and "Stillmatic" a near classic. I guess Nas knew this album would be a gem that's why he named it "Stillmatic" after "Illmatic." His newer album "God's Son" is a good followup to "Stillmatic." However, I felt that the death of his mother caused him to calm down and make his lyrics a little softer than that of pure fire spittin he let out in "Stillmatic." I suggest you buy "Illmatic" a younger Nas and "Stillmatic" a much wiser street spitter. PEACE.
