Street's Disciple

Ai'ight, Nothing More

I'm trying to get into this album, but it's not that easy. Don't get me wrong, I respect Nas, and consider him to be one of the best MC's in the game. Even more, as NY hip-hop is taking a hit these days, I was actually pulling for my man to come through with the goods. However, I'm only feeling about less than half of this album, which is why I value my ipod so much. Oh, I consider the album to be a bargain. $9.99 at Circuit City for a double joint is a best buy. I listened to Disc One over and over without going to Disc Two, and I was actually pretty enthused. Almost all industry double CD's are full of 25% throw-out material so I wasn't mad when I found myself fast forwarding a few cuts on the disc after repeat listening. Then I popped in Disc Two, and with the exception of about three cuts, the whole joint really doesn't warrant a second look. Bottom line, there are too many cuts on this double CD that loose their value after one or two listens. Hardcore hip-hip is music that you can listen to over and over again. In my opinion, Illmatic and the Lost Tapes best define the true talents of Nas. This album here, is just ai'ight, nothing more.
