Nas

Street's Disciple

Grown Folks Music

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
I didn't want to reiterate what previous reviewers have stated but, I would be remissed if I neglected to state a few comments. Nas by far has more intelligence than 90% of the alleged emcees in hip-hop. Nas is not the type of emcee that will be understood in addition he is not the same cat from 93 when Illmatic dropped. I was 15 when Illmatic dropped and I think a lot differently at 26. Nas is on another level. With tracks like Getting Married, Remember the Times, These Are Our Heroes he clearly shows the development of not only a emcee but he is now a grown ass man. I recommend setting asside a few hours with a clear mind to absorb what the he has to say. If you were thinking this was going a bunch of radio bangers, club songs then this is not a CD for you. If you are a true fan or shall I say disciple of the self proclaimed Street's Disciple you will feel this album. In comparison to Illmatic, The Lost Tapes, It Was Written this album is fourth in my opinion but that can always be challenged. I agree that there were several tracks that could have scratched. American Way has a good message but we all have heard the P-Funk samples. I just couldn't imagine Nas on a track with Ludacris or Maxwell. My personal favorites are War (that hook is ill), Rememeber the Times (brought back a lot of memories, we all have thought all the babes we have dealt with in our past), These Are Our Heroes (he said what you and I wanted to say), Just A Moment (Quan is spitting his heart out)and last Sekou Story, Live Now and UBR personify the Nas's ability to paint pictures. In addition to De La Soul, Masta Ace, Pete Rock and The Foreign Exchange this one of the better of 2K4. Unfortunately since major radio stations play the same artists 24/7 the majority of the tracks I mentioned will not be heard.

In closing hip-hop heads keep supporting true music don't conform to the garbage that is rotated on the radio.

Peace,
